Walk this way or at least Sound this way with Joe Perry

Joe Perry, the Lead Guitarist/Songwriter of Aerosmith, has been able to uphold a long career, probably due to the catchy riff and hooks this guitarist is able to produce, but he also has a unique and recognizable sound.

Here is a list of equipment used on the most recent tour:

Amplifiers:
2 Marshall Major 200-watt heads (believe only one is used)
2 Marshall 4X12 Speaker Cabinets
Variac power attenuator

Effects Pedals/Pedalboard:
Radial Studio Guitar Interface SGI-RX receiver
Klon Centaur Overdrive pedal
Chicago Iron Tychobrahe Octavia pedal
MoogerFooger MF-104Z Analog Delay pedal
Line 6 MM-4 Modulation Modeler pedal
Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler pedal
Carl Martin Plexi-Tone pedal
Digitech Whammy pedal
Vox Wah-Wah Pedal
Ernie Ball 6180 Mono Volume Pedal
Radial Studio Guitar Interface SGI-TX transmitter

There are two things in Perry's pedal chain that change from time to time. First being his octave pedal, he used a few different ones intermittently including: Octavia Pedal, Electro-Harmonix POG pedal, and a Fulltone Ultimate Octave Pedal.

Additionally, his delays alternate between the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man Pedal, DL-4 Pedal, and the Fulltone Tube Tape Echo Pedal.

Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne) Signature Sound

Randy Rhoads was Ozzy Osbourne's guitar player for many years. He is best known for his work on the song, "Crazy Train", and is my personal favorite guitarist that has played lead guitar for Ozzy.

Here is a list of the gear used in his set-up:

Amp: Marshall JMP100 Watt Master Volume Head
Guitar: Jackson RR-1 Electric Guitar (Signature Model)
Pedals: MXR 10 Band Equalizer, MXR Analog Delay, MXR Distortion Plus, MXR Stereo Chorus, MXR Stereo Flanger, Roland FV-300H Volume Pedal, and Vox 847 Wah.

He also used a few rackmount effects including:
Roland RE-301 Space Echo Tape Delay/Chorus/Reverb
Yamaha E1005 & E1010 Analog Delay / Chorus / Flanger

Here samples of Randy's sound here:

Great guitarist. His life was ended in a ultra-light Airplane while on tour with Ozzy, but he lives on in his sound and his songs.

Grunge's God

Kurt Cobain, leader of the band Nirvana, was able to change a whole generation of music with the bands sounds. Almost killing the 80s metal scene by being its anti-christ.

Here a sample of his sound here:

Kurt's setup is as follows:

Guitars:
Fender Jaguar Electric Guitar
Fender Mustang Electric Guitar
Fender Stratocaster Standard Electric Guitar

Pedals:
Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion
Electro-Harmonix Small Clone Analog Chorus
Electro-Harmonix Stereo PolyChorus
Tech 21 SansAmp Classic

Speakers:
Celestion 12" Vintage 30 Speakers

Rack:
Crest 4801 Power Amplifier
Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp

What else will I say...

Want to be Thunderstruck?

One of the biggest bands of their time's guitarist used one of the most simplest set-ups; that title goes to Angus Young of AC/DC.

Angus is best known for his schoolboy outfit, dance moves (Duck walk that looks very similar to Chuck Berry's moves), and of course his SG electric guitar. It seems everything he has to create tone is on the minimal side of things.

Here a sample of his sound:

Here is his setup:

Guitar: 1964 Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar
Amp: Marshall JMP 100 Watt MAster Volume Head
Cabinets: Marshall 1960A Slant Cabinet / 4x12, Marshall 1960B Straight Cabinet / 4x12

That's it. He plugs directly into his amp.

Hope you enjoy. Rock.
